4 out of 5 stars A must Have   May 4, 2010

I bought the Air Horn & wiring kit and quickly realized the need for the kit. I actually mounted and wired the horn with the stock mount and wire, but the horn on my VTX 1300C shares a 10A fuse with the brake light and turn signal. The horn worked, but if you honked more than a very short burst, the fuse would blow. I then rewired it using the kit and the included 30A fuse and relay, it is now considerably louder with the 30A over the 10A circuit. Don't waste your time, buy the kit and do it right the first time.

All the items you need for a proper install are there. Would have been nice to have a mounting bracket, but you can use the one that comes from the stock horn.
My only caveat is the crimp on connectors. They don't work. I found myself in traffic, wanting to use the horn and-it didn't work! Hey, it blew away everyone in a city block after I installed it at home!?! Well, the bumps and grinds of the road disconnected two of the crimpons. The wires had just pulled out from them, while the crimpons were still connected-not very secure. I soldered them on this time-now they are going nowhere-but my Nautilus horn and my Triumph are going everywhere-and loudly!

2 out of 5 stars Wires too short, connectors annoying, non-black wires don't look good on bike   April 26, 2010

I mounted the horn on my Kawasaki Versys in the same place as the stock horn--behind the front wheel, just in front of the engine block. The red power wire was a few inches too short, and the two white wires from the old horn wires were almost too short. I had to buy a longer power wire to complete the installation.

The connectors were a bit of a pain to work with. Even after I crimped the bejeezus out of them they would sometimes loosely clamp the wire, requiring me to recrimp them with all the force I could muster. By comparison, the install I did of my heated grips with wiring and a relay from Eastern Beaver was easy.

One other thing to think about: wire color. It's standard for electrical wiring to be different colors to help you identify what's for power, for grounding, etc. That's fine unless you're doing an install on a naked bike like the Versys, and you don't want red and white wires visible. I used the white wires, but I wish I had used black wires instead, because as much as I tried to route the white wire behind things to hide it, it is still visible in one place and looks cheesy (I'll probably go back and replace the white wires with black later). Since the red power wire in the kit was too short anyway, I bought 14 gauge black wire from a store and used that instead. The black naturally blends into background and looks much better.

Bottom line, if I was to do it over again I'd skip this kit and buy 20' of black 14 gauge wire, connecters, plus fuse.

The wiring kit is all that you need to replace your stock motorcycle horn with a Stebel horn. However, you can save yourself some money by buying a relay and some wire at Radio Shack.

3 out of 5 stars Wires are too short.   June 1, 2009

It was really nice to have the kit with everything one needs to wiring up my Stebel Air Horn. However, the 3 ft. of wire that came with the kit were all too short. After going from the forward to mid aft of the motorcycle I was short about 2 ft. I wanted to mount the relay under the seat or in the battery comparment to protect it cuz most of the wires hooked into it. However, since I don't wire a lot of things up, I didn't have any of the hardware and it sure was easier to get the kit instead of going to Home Depot or whatever and buy a lot of things I don't need.
